Tatami mats are used throughout homes in Japan to provide a softer landing for busy feet. They are made by weaving cotton with soft rush, a fiber derived from a plant species that thrives in marshes and wetlands, to produce durable indoor flooring that withstands the test of time and weather. This mat is made by a generations-old manufacturer in Japan from rush that is grown and harvested locally. The natural fiber will patina with use, shifting in color from light green to muted brown. Suitable for use anywhere in the home, place it in a mudroom or entryway, or use it as an understated kitchen mat.
