System Sensor 5602 - 194°F Fixed Temp / Rate of Rise Heat Detector

The System Sensor 5602 is a rate of rise and fixed temperature heat detector. Its fixed temperature sensor activates at 194°F, making it good for the hottest areas in the home. It also uses a RoR sensor that activates with a temperature increase of 15°F in a single minute. Buy the 5602 here..
The System Sensor 5602 combination rate-of-rise and fixed-heat detector responds to the presence of high heat or a rapid rise in temperature. This hardwired heat-detecting sensor activates at a fixed temperature of 194℉ (90℃) or with a temperature increase of 15℉ (~8.3℃) or more per minute. Although heat detectors are used to detect fire, they are not considered life-safety devices. Heat detectors are usually used in areas where fire is a hazard, but where a smoke detector may cause nuisance false alarms. These include garages, kitchens, equipment sheds, and sometimes even bathrooms. Noxious fumes, dust, smoke from cooking, and steam are all things that can cause false alarms, particularly with photoelectric smoke detectors. Heat detectors are also often installed in attics, and since attics often get very hot, the fixed high-temperature threshold of the System Sensor 5602 makes it an excellent choice for these applications. In addition to its non-restoring fixed-heat temperature sensor, the System Sensor 5602 has a self-restoring, rate-of-rise heat detector. If the temperature in the area where the 5602 is mounted rises 15℉ (~8.3℃) or more per minute, then the Normally Open (NO), single-circuit 5602 will also signal an alarm by closing the alarm circuit. Unlike the fixed-temperature portion of the sensor, which must be replaced once it trips, the rate-of-rise portion of the sensor will automatically restore once the temperature returns to normal. Because of this, the rate-of-rise portion of the sensor can be functionally tested using a hairdryer set on the highest setting, or a heat gun. Be very careful when testing, however. If the temperature at the sensor exceeds the fixed temperature threshold, the sensor will have to be replaced. Of course, this also means that if the 5602 fixed temperature sensor trips because of an actual high-temperature fire event, then it will need to be replaced. Heat detectors are very simple mechanical devices. They have a Normally Open (NO) circuit. When abnormal heat is detected, the circuit closes, which causes a short on the alarm panel zone. This in turn causes a fire alarm on the alarm panel. Unlike smoke detectors, heat detectors don't require power. In most cases, they can be installed on any hardwired zone on an alarm panel. They can even be used with some RF transmitters, such as the Honeywell 5817CBXT. Though it may not be required by the alarm panel that an end-of-line resistor (EOLR) be used, it is always recommended that normally open devices, and in particular fire devices, be properly supervised with an appropriate resistor installed at the last heat detector in the circuit. Because these devices are normally open, the resistor should be installed in parallel. In order to install the resistor in parallel, each side of the resistor should go under one of the two terminals available on the System Sensor 5602. For additional information, please read the document Limitations of Fire Alarm Systems provided by System Sensor. If you need a heat detector with the same heat-detecting parameters as the System Sensor 5602, but you need a dual-circuit sensor, check out the System Sensor 5622. Dual-circuit sensors can be connected to auxiliary devices like access control locks in addition to an alarm panel. If you need a sensor with a high heat-sensing threshold, with no rate-of rise technology built-in, take a look at the System Sensor 5624. Also, if you want a single-circuit sensor like the 5602, but you want it to activate at a lower fixed temperature, then check out the System Sensor 5601P. Both the 5601P and 5602 are single-circuit devices, but the 5601P activates at the lower temperature of 135℉ (57℃).Specifications Sensor Type: Hardwired Heat Number of Circuits: Single Normally Open (NO) CircuitFixed Temperature Threshold: 194℉ (90℃), Non-Restoring Single UseRate-of-Rise Threshold: 15℉ (~8.3℃) or Higher Rise Per Minute, Self-Restoring Multi-Use UL Maximum Spacing (10-foot ceiling): 50' x 50' (15.2m x 15.2m) Operating Voltage/Contact Ratings (Resistive): 6 - 125 VAC / 3A ; 6 - 28 VDC / 1A ; 125 VDC / 0.3A ; 250VDC / 0.1A Maximum Installation Temperature: 150℉ (65.6℃) Operating Humidity: 5 to 95% Relative Humidity Non-Condensing Wire Gauge Supported by Terminals: 14 - 22 AWG Back Box Mounting: 3.5 octagonal ; 4 octagonal ; Single Gang ; 4 square with a square to round plaster ring Dimensions (w/Mounting Bracket): Diameter: 4.57 (11.6cm) ; Height: 1.69 inches (4.3cm) Weight: 6 oz.
